ANNIE RAMIREZ

Winning a gold medal during the 31st Southeast Asian Games back in May 2022 wasn’t an easy task for Jiu-Jitsu athlete, Annie Ramirez. Her journey began humbly as she recalls the financial struggles she went through, leaving her with just one uniform to use for training and competing. Without financial support, it was also difficult to compete at various events.
Despite all the emotional, physical and financial struggles, she emerged triumphant as she evolved into the person she is today. Standing proud of all she’s been through, Annie remains an inspiration to all the aspiring Filipino athletes in the world.

SERENE VILLALUNA

Before getting her MBA degree, becoming a Certified International Project Manager, and a Master Project Manager, Serene Villaluna holds a special place in her heart for working students all over the world, as she was once one of them.
As the breadwinner at just 17 years old, Serene took it upon herself to help her five siblings graduate college, while also striving hard to finish her own studies. She first began as an IT consultant at a financial technology company, slowly rising through the ranks over time despite being the only woman on her team, and having to juggle school and work simultaneously.
Through the negative circumstances she faced, Serene remains proud of her determination, which has already helped three of her siblings graduate. She hopes that more Filipinos may get the chance to shine in the Tech Industry as well someday.

Wow great picture! 2024 anyone?
The determination shown despite of all the hardships they’ve encountered along the way is what inspires me the most in the shared story of Ms. Annie and Ms. Serene. Their experiences are relatable. I’m also going through a lot as an individual. Sometimes, I can’t help but to think of giving up. However, whenever I look back from where I’ve started, just like Ms. Annie and Ms. Serene, I can’t help to be proud of what I’ve become. My achievements may be smaller compared to others of my age, still, I believe that I will be able to reach what I’ve wanted to become. With courage, determination, commitment, toughness, heart and sacrifice like Ms. Annie and Ms. Serene, I’ll definitely shine and be a star of my own.
